Survivor: They're Baa-aack!

Yep, tonight's the night - the return of Survivor - and there will be some familiar “rats” and “snakes” among the cast this time around. The season is officially “Survivor 16: Micronesia,” but the theme is Favorites Versus Fans, meaning The Powers That Be will be bringing back a team of the Survivors you loved – or, in some cases, loved to hate – to play against some of the biggest fans of the game. That’s right, this season will pit those who “knew” they would win (while sitting in the comforts of their arm chair) against those who had a chance and failed before. As an arm-chair Survivor myself, I can’t wait to see how this plays out.

Now, did losers –er, former Survivors – learn from their mistakes? Well, here’s my strictly biased opinion on these second-time-arounders:

James Clement, the gravedigger from Survivor:China – may have made the biggest flub in Survivor history by failing to play one of his TWO immunity idols. Did he learn something from his outster, or will he dig his own grave again?

Amanda Kimmel, the beauty queen and brains behind Todd’s win on Survivor:China – she played “Boston Rob” to Todd’s “Amber” – and ended up without a vote at tribal council. Could she pick better friends among these seasoned vets?

Yau-Man Chan, who proved winning the car is really cursed on Survivor:Fiji – Dreamz took the keys – and failed to live up to his promise of immunity, costing Yau-Man a spot in the final three (and possibly a win). Hopefully Yau will play just as well as the first time around – and won’t trust anyone with a ridiculous nickname.

Paravati Shallow, the Survivor: Cook Islands flirt who lived up to her last name – a lightweight player who depended solely on her looks….but will the fans playing the game be so star-struck that her dark beauty will be enough?

Jonathan Penner, the triple-crossing game master on Survivor: Cook Islands – I love watching Jonathan’s mind work….it seems to be constantly moving three steps ahead. His fatal flaw was trusting Candace, and he seemed to wise up quickly….but will his brilliant survival gameplay make him an early target?

Ozzy Lusth, the Survivor: Cook Islands immunity hog – he was a whiz at physical challenges, but not so much the strategy….after all, he did suggest losing on purpose to out a lackluster teammate! Still, Ozzy is eye candy for female viewers – and he really rocks in the water.

Cirie Fields, the lovable momma who was afraid of leaves on Survivor: Panama – her likeability factor shot off the charts as she hung in there, despite her admitted fear of leaves. (Er, duh, did she think she signed up for Survivor: Marriott?) Her under the radar play and flexibility may take her far – and the fan team will love her, without considering her a threat.

Eliza Orlins and Ami Cusack, part of the ill-fated women’s alliance on Survivor: Vanuatu – Eliza was the doe-eyed legal student who made it to the final four, and Ami the mastermind who received a surprise boot as construction worker Chris somehow infiltrated the show’s most solid female alliance. Will they join forces again – or is it every woman for herself this time around?

Jon Dalton – yes, we’re talking Johnny Fairplay – whose million dollar schemes were deader than his dead grandma on Survivor: Pearl Islands. Not a fan favorite, per se, having Johnny on the scene will make things interesting – and will keep the fan team on their toes. He says he’s a sure winner…but we all know what his words are worth!

Or will a fresh faced fanatic of Survivor - with all the strategic knowledge learned from previous seasons, but none of the "hands-on" experience - come out of nowhere to take it all? Stay tuned!
