Love Is In The Air

According to a press release I received today, Fox Reality Channel will be celebrating Valentine's Day with the premiere of a new special - "The Top 25 Hottest Reality Showmances."

Well, this got me to thinking about the Survivor showmances - and those that became real-life romances. Of course, the most famous (or is it infamous?) example being that of the Marianos, Boston Rob and the former Amber Brkich. The twosome met on Survivor: All Stars, and he proposed just before she beat him by a vote for the million dollar prize. (Of course, those with long memories may remember Rob flirted with the physically-enhanced Cleopatra - er, Sara - in his original season.) As a married couple, the Marianos also came in a close-but-no-cigar second in The Amazing Race's seventh season, and were bumped off the All Star version of the same game in the fourth leg.

Survivor: Africa winner Ethan Zohn wasn't involved in an on-screen showmance, but seems to have made up with it by spending his post-Survivor days wooing fellow contestants. Zohn has reportedly dated Brkich and season 1single mama Jenna Lewis before becoming seriously involved with Survivor: Amazon winner Jenna Morasca.

Showmance turned into romance for last season's hottie Jaime Dugan and her virginal teammate Erik Huffman. Both confirmed they were dating at the reunion show for Survivor: China, though I can't find current status of the relationship. Anyone?

Of course, the current season is featuring not one but two showmances on the same tribe - Ozzy/Amanda and James/Parvati. And let's not forget the real life romancings of host Jeff Probst and former contestant Julie Berry of Survivor:Vanuatu, who became a couple after the season wrapped.

Maybe there's something about being stranded with strangers.....or in drinking cow's blood and eating bugs....that gets Cupid going. Anyway, don't forget to enjoy this week's Survivor while you snuggle with your sweetie on Valentine's Day.
